Origin + History
Açaí (ah-sigh-ee) is a coveted rainforest berry grows in the Eastern Amazon and Guianas, northern Brazil, Venezuela and Trinidad. To the people of South America and the Brazilian Amazonian regions—more precisely the region of the Amazon River Estuary—the Açaí berry has been a staple, a mainstay, and even a critical medicinal berry to thousands of people for centuries.
Historically, the use of the Açaí berry dates back over a thousand years. Its therapeutic food value was known to the earliest Brazilian natives and there are many legends that pertain to the Açaí berry’s incredible healing and health sustaining powers. It remains a popular health and energy food in Brazil today (Brazilians often refer to the Açaí berry as the "Viagra of the Amazon") referring to its ability to help support and sustain sexual energy in the body. In fact, the nutritional constituents of the Açaí berry support all facets of energy production in the human body.*
