Origin + History
Noni (no-nee) is the common name for Morinda citrifolia, an evergreen tree reaching heights of 15 to 20 feet. The prolific Noni tree bears fruit year round. It grows and flourishes in tropical, volcanic regions such as French Polynesia and Hawaii. Noni is extremely hearty, capable of withstanding fierce winds, high salinity and drought. It can grow and thrive under conditions in which few other plants can survive.
Noni is among the first plants to colonize lava flows and may survive with very minimal rainfall (less than 9 inches per
year). The lava flows and volcanic soils contain very high concentrations of minerals and nutrients. These minerals and nutrients are more powerful than what most people may experience over an entire lifetime. The roots of the Noni tree absorb the nutrients from the rich volcanic soil. This absorption process feeds the entire Noni tree, the bark, the leaves and the Noni fruit.
Therein lies Noni’s strength. When aged and processed properly, these nutrients may be absorbed by consuming parts of the Noni tree. Every part of the Noni plant has been revered for over 2,000 years for its practical, healthful and spiritual uses. From leaf to fruit to seed, all parts of the Noni plant carry a wealth of nutrients from the pure islands upon which it grows.
The pure, pungent juice of Noni fruit is legendary for its support in healing and restorative powers, being that the pure juice of the Noni fruit is akin to the plant’s “blood.” Pure Noni juice has been used in Traditional Polynesian Medicine to support a wide variety of health issues such as: headaches, toothaches, sore throats, skin conditions and many more.* Indigenous Tribal Medicine Men also claim it may support: healthy bones and joints, gastrointestinal disorders and may help stimulate appetite.*
